DVMP Pro is licensed for use on a specific number of computers. You will have chosen the number of computers that you want to use it on when you purchased your license. A new license comes with the first 12 months of email support and program updates of version 8 of DVMP Pro - when the 12 months expires, a further support period can be purchased if further support and updates are required, but this is not mandatory. For more details about support, see the installation instructions email that is sent to you at the time of purchase.

To install DVMP Pro, simply follow the instructions in the email that you are sent when your license purchase is complete. Use the installation download link on each computer that you are licensed to use. You must not attempt to install DVMP Pro on more computers than you are licensed for. If you wish to use it on more computers, then simply purchase another additional license for the required number of extra computers - if in doubt email us (the Contact link is on our web site).

When the installer runs on each computer, you will be prompted to enter your License Key. Just copy the license key from the email you received, and paste it into the box on screen and click OK. If the License Key is entered correctly then installation will complete.

warning

IMPORTANT: If you have more than one purchased license for version 8, please ensure that you keep a careful record of which computers are using which license. Each purchase has its own License ID (and corresponding License Key) and has its own limit on the number of computers that it can be installed on which is chosen at the time of purchase. To avoid exceeding the number of computers for any specific License ID (and the license becoming blocked), it is important to keep a careful record of which License ID is used by each installed computer. The License ID used by a computer can be checked by clicking the Help > About menu in DVMP Pro. For more details see Licensing Multiple Computers.

The program will then check for the presence of necessary video and audio decoders on your computer. Different decoders are needed for playing each video file type, and they are also needed for the Burn-in Timestamp and Burn-in Metadata tools. DVMP Pro will attempt to find and select the decoders automatically and store them in its settings for future use.

DVMP Pro can only be installed on desktop or laptop computers that are running Windows 10 or 11. Also, DVMP Pro is now only provided as a 64 bit application, so it will not install on 32 bit editions of Windows. This is because earlier versions of Windows are no longer supported by Microsoft, and 32 bit editions are unsuitable for processing higher resolution video - also, according to published stats, Windows 7 and 8 and 32 bit editions are only installed on a tiny proportion of computers nowadays.

Licensing Multiple Computers

When you purchase a license for DVMP Pro, you receive an instructions email that contains a textual License ID (License Identifier) and a corresponding License Key.

Each purchase is a separate independent license with its own License ID. The License ID is a short serial number that uniquely identifies the license (and the purchase), and it is accompanied by a long License Key that is linked to that License ID only - so there is a one-to-one correspondence of License ID and License Key. When you make a purchase of a license, you enter into the purchase form the number of computers that you want to be covered by that particular license/purchase, and you are sent the instructions email that contains the License ID and its linked License Key for that license.

So for example, if you first purchase a license for 3 computers, you receive an email containing the License ID and License Key - you enter this License Key into each of the 3 computers that you want the license to cover. Each time you use this License Key to install on a computer it uses up a 1 computer allowance, so you can only use the key on a maximum of 3 computers - you must NOT try to use this key to install on a 4th computer or you will be exceeding the quota of this license and hence violating the terms of the license.

If you subsequently find you will need to use the product on a 4th and 5th computer then you simply purchase a second independent license for these 2 extra computers - you will then receive an email with a second License ID and its linked License Key. This second License ID (and License Key) has a quota for only 2 computers which must not be exceeded. You would now use this second License Key to install on the 2 extra computers. You MUST only use the second License Key for the 2 new computers - if you attempt to use the first key by mistake this will exceed its quota of 3 and violate the first license.

Because each purchase is a separate independent license with its own unique License ID, License Key and number of allowed computers, then you MUST keep a careful audit/spreadsheet of which of your computers is using which License ID. This is the only way to ensure that each of your licenses stays within its quota, and that you do not install the software on more computers than is allowed by the license terms.

The License ID that is being used by any licensed computer can be checked by clicking the Help > About menu in DVMP Pro.

Security of License Keys

Each purchase has a unique License ID that identifies it. And each purchase is a separate independent license with its own limit on the number of computers that it is allowed to be installed on. If you have a single license (License ID) for more than 1 computer, or if you have previously purchased another license for DVMP Pro, then you must keep a careful audit of which of your computers is using which License ID. This is the only way to ensure that none of your licenses exceeds its agreed number of computers.

To keep an accurate up-to-date audit, you need to be in control of the installation procedure so that you know when and where each licensed computer is installed and which actual License ID it uses. You can only do this if you keep your License Key(s) private to yourself, or a trusted person who reports to you who will perform the installation procedure on your computers.

Do not give a copy of a License Key to anyone else.

Do not give your end users a copy of a License Key so that they can install the software themself. If you do this, they may innocently use the key to install it on more computers than you are aware of, and increases the chance that your License Key may be leaked or stolen. Always do the installation yourself, and make sure that the end user is not able to obtain a copy of the License Key.

Do not leave a copy of any License Key on storage media (apart from your own backup copy) nor anywhere on a computer network.

If you delegate the installation procedure to a trusted person/employee, make sure that they understand and observe these security precautions, and that they tell you which computers they have installed or uninstalled the software on so that you can update your audit records.

Treat License Keys as a valuable asset of your organization which must be protected from being seen or copied by anyone but yourself.

As the License Holder you and your organization are responsible for the security of the License Keys and for any misuse or theft of the License Keys.
